Is it REALLY too much to ask?

I have lived in an apartment, or something with at least a shared wall for the last 9 and 1/2 years. We have had some great neighbors, and we have had some interesting neighbors. But never have neighbors made me want a home as much as the neighbors we have now.
The neighbors next to us, well, the wife really likes to scream at her kids. James does not care for this, and frankly, neither do I. They are also too lazy to take their garbage to the dumpster, so I am often greeted by the smell of nasty diapers upon arriving at my apartment.
But nothing beats the neighbors upstairs. For starters, they keep really weird hours. The whole first month we lived here, I couldn't figure out why I kept waking up at 4:00 in the morning for seemingly no reason, until one morning I noticed the sound of running water and realized that someone upstairs was showering at 4:00 AM. Now, I consider myself reasonable, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. People can't always help the hours they work or what not. But then they started doing their laundry at 1:30 or so in the morning. Really? Because while watching infomercials at 1:00 AM you suddenly realize that you have no clean pants for the morning? So, then we run into said neighbor in the parking lot one day. He asks if he is loud. I am thinking to myself, "boy is that an understatement." Jake is a little more polite out loud to the guy but does mention it would be nice if he didn't do laundry in the middle of the night. Problem solved, right? I mean, if you are going to go out of your way to ask if you are loud and you are asked to not do laundry in the middle of the night, you would stop, wouldn't you?
So last night, something wakes me up at 1:30. I am thinking to myself that it is pretty weird because Jake is in Baltimore. I was wondering what woke me up when I hear water running, as if it is filling a washing machine- NO! Sure enough, ten minutes later when it changes to the wash cycle, James starts crying. I think we finally got back to sleep some time after 3:00.

I WANT A HOUSE!

White noise, Brooke. White. Noise.

Malia still sleeps with a fan on EVERY night, even in the winter. It saves us from ulcers and anger.

Wow, that's pretty bad. Yikes!! Yeah, if you ASK, and someone has a polite REQUEST, you should honor it. Sheesh.

You mean you didn't like the neighbors when we first got married that brought home cockroaches and infested the entire building?

With neighbors you never know what you are going to get. You could buy a house and have neighbors like mine that park their 4 cars, an RV and a boat on the street (year round) even though it is against the law. I guess they at least let me sleep though.

Oh Brooke, that does sound stressful. No doubt that after all these trials, you'll be blessed with the home of your dreams!!!

P.S. Thank you for the congratulations :)

That's so crappy! But I guess be thankful you don't own that place. The good thing about an apartment is that you can move. If you own, well....that makes it a little more complicated.
But yeah, I agree about white noise. We have an air filter fan in Ev's room that's actually pretty loud. But it's on every night and helps block out cars outside and noisy daddy getting ready in the morning.
