the continuing adventures of health care (this is post number 2, see below for number 1)

So, in the midst of the drug filled week, my sister and mother have to pack my house because I only have a left arm that is of any use. While my mother is packing the bathroom, it occurs to me that I should have had a period by now. I had a cyst back in November, so I am just sure that it is back. Crap. So in the midst of everything else, I have to deal with that too. I call my primary care physician and he tells me to get another ultrasound. And I discover that he has not received any of the reports from the ER, hospitals or anywhere else. As of yesterday, he still had not. Nice.

So, I had an ultrasound and sure enough something is there. So I had to make yet another appointment with yet another doctor, an OBGYN this time. I can't contain my excitement. (that last statement is supposed to be sarcasm, just so nobody else gets confused :)) My primary care physician also decides I should have a CT scan of my pelvis (you know, where a cyst would be) and my abdomen, just to make sure we aren't missing anything.

Meanwhile, I go to the neurologist and she decides to switch my medication because there is a different one that she claims has less side effects than the one that I got in the ER (side note here, they moved me from Lakeview to the U of U so that I could get the drug that has all the lovely side effects by IV). But she is worried about just pulling me off the one because the one she wants me on has to be built up slowly. So, I start taking two medications. Like I wasn't crazy before!!!

Tuesday I have the second appointment at the orthopedic surgeon's to make sure the bone that broke off when I dislocated my shoulder has not migrated (his word). I get there and check in and the receptionist tells me I owe $100. Um, I don't think so. "We have you down as uninsured." Funny, I gave you my insurance last time and only paid the $30 co-pay. I had to give her all of the information yet again, and go see the billing office. the billing office charges me the $30 co-pay. They had all of my information from the first time- What? "Oh, and wait, isn't this a follow up visit?" "Yes." "Then you don't owe the $30 co-pay either." Honestly, what is with this place! They take me back and have me change into a gown again. I request one without staples and the guy just gives me a stupid look. Well, good news here at least, the bone has not migrated and I can stop using the stupid sling. Yeah!!!

I leave this one on a positive note. There is one more installment. The day from HELL!

Horray for non-migrating bones...?

You had better finish the third installment of this story SOON! Though The Day from Hell doesn't sound like it will be a very enjoyable read....

Wow. Sounds like a really hard time, to say the least. I'm not much of a fan of the health care system, either. I hope things get better really soon.
