Vernal

So Jake and I went on a belated Anniversary trip to Vernal because we had never been to Dinosaur Monument and all of that. Well, nobody warned us that the Quarry is closed. The foundation fell apart and they lost their funding due to 9/11 and so they have not been able to rebuild. Due to the stimulus package they should be rebuilding starting next year...

So these are the only dinosaur bones we saw.
A leg bone:

Part of a spine:

We saw a lot of Petroglyphs though:

"Boo!!"

A Goat or something:

Find the lizards:

Overall, it turned into a good trip. Sometimes it is nice just to get away. If anyone is planning on going that way I suggest waiting until the Quarry is rebuilt.

Lake Powell

Every year my family goes to Lake Powell.
This year we parked the houseboat in Gunsight Canyon.

It was nice to have Jake with us this year.
Last year he was in Pasadena instead.

I really love this hat.
I think it was my niece's (Kaitlyn) first.

It wasn't until the last day that James
decided that sand was pretty fun
and he actually played in it.

My sister bought this inflatable Jet Ski
for my nephew (Ryan) to play on.

My dad kind of made James ride on it.

Our trips are pirate themed.
We have pirate flags
and one year we all made pirate t-shirts.

My dad started making pirate treasure maps
(complete with treasures) for the kids.

James got a treasure this year too.
