article on writing

Hey, the kid is still asleep, and I don't feel like working, so I am doing whatever.

On Friday, my mom gave me this article in the O magazine (for those of you who don't know, this is Ophra's magazine) about writing (for those of you who don't know, I am an aspiring writer). So, this article talks about how to finish writing a book in a year. I find that hysterical considering my first book took about six years. Of course part of that was because when I started "doodling" it in high school, I had no idea it would become a book. Well, any way, there is most of a sequel to this mentioned book floating around in my head. And as often happens with right-brained activities, parts of it are written, but not necessarily in order. So, I read this article thinking how great it would be to write a book in a year. This guy's advice included such insane things as "write every day, no matter what." And I say to my mother as I am reading this, "this guy doesn't have kids does he?" I would love to write every day. But James is not quite to the point that I can just sit him down with some activity and then write, sitting next to him. Heck, he doesn't like it when I have to work, and he is awake. So, this guy's comments included something like, "I know some of you have other things that need to get done (yeah, just off the top of my head: dishes, dinner, vacuuming, my bathroom is a disaster, payroll, faxes from work, I haven't dusted since James was born, I have plants to water...), and I don't know the solution to that. But you must write every day." Thanks buddy, that is very helpful.

Well, as you can see I have plenty to do. Here's hoping James let's me finish even one thing on that list.
