Some thoughts

First: I am sick of hearing about the elections. All elections are historic. Frankly, I am just glad the whole darn thing is over. I don't even care who won. I don't think there is such a thing as an uncorrupted politician. So just shut up about the whole thing already!

Now, on to other things. We have been house hunting. I am sick of living in an apartment and want somewhere to live. With that said, I hate house shopping. I am not a shopper. I would rather be shot then spend days at the mall. When I do shop, I shop like a man. I know what I want, I go to said store and purchase said item. THE END. This is impossible with house shopping, as with finding black pants. I am sick of it! I just want to find the house I want and buy it.

For those of you following my writing career:
I mentioned some time back that I was sending my book to a publisher. The allowed amount of time at that publisher for a response is three months. That time is up tomorrow. But I got this email last week:
Dear Brooke,

Thanks you for submitting your work, "Soul Mates." We try to keep our review process under three months and in most cases we are able to do that. However, with your book, we have had an out-of-town reviewer going over your book and are a little behind schedule. We wanted to make you aware that we do have your manuscript, it has been reviewed, is currently under review, and we hope to have an answer for you in the next two weeks.

I don't want to get my hopes up. But if they were going to flat out reject it, wouldn't they have just rejected it? Any thoughts?

Woohoo!!! I think that's a great sign! I've never submitted anything to be published, but I tend to think that's a good thing.

I realize this is obvious, but have you checked things like realtor.com and utahrealestate.com? Those might help you narrow the field a little bit.

Also - forsalebyowner.com.

A resounding A-MEN to your first point!! I think I OD'd on election coverage over the past 3 years.

As for your second point, it makes me happy to know I'm not the only woman who shops like a man. Good luck with the house hunt! I was terrified when we were searching for a place. I hope that you can be guided in your search as I feel we were. Even when things go ahem... awry a bit later, then you can feel comfortable knowing you made a good decision. If you want, feel free to email me and ask me more about the things that we learned as this comment is already getting quite long.

It's hopeful, that's for sure, but probably not at the point of throwing a party. We'll just all keep our fingers crossed along with you!

As for the house thing, I totally agree. If could find the house I want (at the price I want), I'd probably have moved into it months ago. Alas, we are still in the same boat as you.

How exciting about the publisher. If they're not taking it, then it's not because it's not an awesome book. Thanks for being such an inspiration. I'm in the planning stages for my first novel, and I was kept up for at least an hour last night living in my main character's world. I even gave her a name. Give me another 10 years and maybe I'll be where you are. WAY TO GO!

Ugh. House-hunting truly sucks. I hope the house I have under contract now goes through -- just so I don't have to search anymore.

I have a few submissions out myself, and the wait can be excruciating. I'm impressed that they sent you a personal letter. What publication is it? I wouldn't think their letter means you're necessarily rejected or accepted; I think they may have just been looking for a deadline extension.

Ooh! Good luck with the book! That sounds promising!

Brooke! That is great news from the publisher! That a publisher would take the time to review and further review your book is a great sign, no matter the outcome with this particular publisher. Well, at least it seems so from my perspective! Way to go!

Good luck with the house hunt! I hated the process too, but have enjoyed the result of our labors. I hope you can find the right place quickly!

I could not possibly agree with you more on all counts. Election, SO glad it's over. Shopping, HATE it! It's the reason I could never be much of a bargain hunter. I just can't stand to search through stuff. I want to find what I need and get OUT.
House shopping, seriously not fun. In fact, my husband actually enjoys shopping (not sure what kind of gender confusion happened with the two of us) so he was the one who went house shopping. When he narrowed it down to about 3 houses he liked, that's when I stepped in to make the final decision.

Good luck with your book! Sounds promising!

I agree with the others--if they thought it was crap, the person would've been done reviewing it a long time ago. Let us know how it turns out!

And I love LOVE the black pants mention. So true :)

I hope your book gets accepted, that will hopefully mean that the second one will eventually be finished. Believe it or not I still think about what will happen. I really enjoyed your books. Good luck.

Ok, Brooke, so the comment from "Betsy" was actually from me, Melanie. I'm watching her kids for a couple of hours and was on her computer checking out some blogs, and didn't realize that although I thought I was signed up as me it was actually showing that she was posting a comment. Does that make sense? Anyway, it's me, Melanie, that is excited for the prospect of your book being published and finding out how the story will end.

Yay to the election being over. Phew. Really. Enough is enough.

And I am SO with you on shopping. And we have to add black skirts to the list...why are they so hard to find? When I shop, I'll even go so far as to find it online and then call the store to make sure they have it in my size before I go. Well, actually, that's mainly for shoes...but I don't "shop". I'm a hunter!

Good luck with the house buying! Maybe someday that'll be me?!

Awesome news with your book! That does seem promising. I'll keep my fingers crossed too!

Nice on the book publishing! I really hope it all works out and you'll be a NY Times #1 Bestseller author. And I'm one of the lucky ones (maybe the ONLY one) who can say I have an original manuscript printed directly from the author's work printer! :) Nice!

On the house hunting, I really hope it doesn't take as long for you guys as it did for us. We wrote up 5 contracts on 4 different houses (I know the numbers seem weird...don't ask...) and it took 5 months to finally move into a house. But pretty much EVERYTHING went wrong, so it definitely couldn't happen twice! If you ever need someone who can sympathize, definitely email ME! :)
