So, some people were wondering what kind of movies I like. I will give my opinion of some of the ones we have watched lately.
Mostly we have watched a lot of Doctor Who. These are mainly for Jake. I think I have liked maybe three episodes.
Just saw Emma. I know everyone is in shock because all females have seen all Jane Austen videos a thousand times, right? Well, it was the first time I have seen it. I liked it better than that other one with Mr. Darcy in it. Oh, now I know I have insulted the fans!
Before that was the Majestic. It was just ok. I did not think it was very likely, and it was a little slow.
Serenity: I liked this movie. It is kind of weird, but it is worth the whole movie to watch the girl fight. She is awesome!
Seven Pounds: I actually really liked this movie even if I was a little lost in the beginning. I won't say anything else for those who have not seen it.
Bride Wars: It was ok, a little predictable but cute.
Elizabethtown: To be honest I rented this because Orlando Bloom was in it, but it turned out to be one of the best movies I have seen in a while. (careful, it does have some bad language).
Under the Tuscan Sun: It was ok. Too much sex, but I liked how she went looking for herself.
October Sky: Cute show, based on a true story I think. Astronomy for Jake.
So those are the most recent.
The Proposal is the next on my list to watch.
As for book comments. I have not liked the last three bestsellers I have read. I have been disgusted with the amount of sex in all of them.
Wicked:I really don't like Wicked, but I am trying to suffer through it (don't know why...) . It is very crude and mostly I have been totally lost since the first page. I feel like the author expected me to know the history, politics and religion of Oz without actually giving me any of the history. And well, I have not been to Oz.
Before that was Memory Keeper's Daughter: I liked the premise and overall it was not a bad book, but apparently the solution to such things is to have a lot of affairs (at least on the wife's part).
Then I read a bunch of other stuff, but the other big name one I did not like was Time Traveler's Wife: Nobody in this book had any morals whatsoever. And it still really bothers me that the first time they meet she is six and he is totally naked. I think she could have done sooo much more with this very original premise.
I am going back to Fantasy and Young Adult novels!!!

You know, I've had largely the same experience with books for grown-ups. It's all sex and a total lack of morals. I quit reading the crap because I'd prefer to believe that most people in the world have more moral fiber than to give up fidelity at the first complicated thing to come up. I'd prefer not to lose hope in humanity when I read.
So yeah, I went back to YA fic and couldn't be happier. At least made-up teenagers can fight for what's right.
I haven't been able to sit through Emma, book or movie version. I have a hard time because I just dislike Emma! I'm sure she gets better later, but blah. :)
I did like Seven Pounds. And I liked Serenity, but I had watched the whole Firefly series, so I was already hooked on the characters.
Time Traveler's Wife--yeah, i could have done without the bad language, for sure, and the sex. But I really liked the story.
For now I am just working my way through the Wheel of Time, so I won't be reading much else for a while (except Poisonwood Bible!)
Totally agree on the books. I prefer to spend my time reading YA lit because I find it more uplifting. Sad, but true.
And no, you have not insulted me by not liking Pride and Prejudice. I guess I'm not a DIE-Hard fan, though. Just like it. But I like lots of different movies....sappy girly ones to kung-fu ones. Just not a fan of shoot-em-up explosion movies or scary movies...though I did see I Am Legend....which is like a terrible train wreck you can't look away from.
I prefer Emma to Pride and Prejudice, too! Can't beat Jeremy Northam...
