So Much Going On

First, my dad had a heart attack on January 24th. They went in a cleaned out his artery, and he wanted to go home that very day. Of course, you would have to know my dad. He doesn't "rest" well. I spent the day there on Tuesday in case anybody needed anything (they didn't). Watching Dad was rather like watching the lions at the zoo. He wandered around his apartment a lot, like he was confined. Other than that I have been leaving the mothering up to my sister. She seems to want to do it more, and she doesn't have a toddler in tow. Dad is doing well, though he is tired a lot. He sees his doctor again today, so we will see.

Second, we made an offer on a different house. I am pretty excited about this one and hope we can work out all the details soon. I would love to be in a home so we can have James's birthday party in March at our very own place.

Third, I entered a writing contest today. The Grand Prize is a publishing contract with Penguin and a $25,000 advance. I would love to win! I have my doubts about that, but it sounds like they occasionally sign other people from the contest and I would take that! Stay tuned because there will be a point (assuming I get through to that round) that people who belong to Amazon.com will get the opportunity to vote on books. I am hoping all of my loyal (and not so loyal) readers will help me out by voting for me.

Sorry to get everybody all excited.

I got the rejection email today:
Dear Brooke,

Thank you for submitting your work, Soul Mates. After careful consideration, we have decided not to publish your manuscript at this time. Please be aware that we offer to publish less than ten percent of the manuscripts we review, and although we did not offer to publish your manuscript, we encourage you in your endeavors to get it published. We think you are a talented writer; your manuscript passed through many reviewers who concluded that your writing needs a little polishing but has great potential. We hope that you will continue to pursue getting this published because we think you could be successful and we wish you the best along the way.

Again, thank you for sending us your manuscript. Please feel free to submit any other suitable manuscripts you might have in the future.

Some things I don't understand:
We encourage you to get it published- just not with us ?
We think you can be successful- just not with us ?

So there is that. Don't worry, I am not giving up. It is just discouraging, you know.

PS. Melanie the second one is done. Not that it does anybody any good, huh?
